Greetings and welcome to the LaGrange Highlands School District 106 Website!
My name is Dr. Amy Warke and I am thrilled to be serving as your new Superintendent in the LaGrange Highlands School District 106, also known as “The Highlands”. Since December, I have had an opportunity to meet students, teachers, parents and community members. This community has made me feel so welcomed and at home since the first day I entered the district. It is truly my honor and privilege to continue the excellence that exists in the district.
The Highlands is known for creating an environment where students learn to think critically, effectively communicate, respectfully collaborate, and problem solve in order to prepare them for a successful future. This would not be possible if it were not for the amazing teachers who plan engaging lessons for the students on a daily basis, support staff who “mine the gap” to ensure student needs are addressed, administration who know students and teachers, supportive parents who provide enriching opportunities for students and staff through the PTC and Foundation events, and the dedicated Board of Education who provides the steady guidance and support to ensure every child will reach his or her potential.
The LaGrange Highlands School District is in LaGrange, Illinois. We serve the communities of Countryside, LaGrange, LaGrange Highlands, Indian Head Park, and Western Springs. Our district services approximately 946 students PreK-8. Our district provides a rich, comprehensive curriculum aligned to state standards with a multitude of enrichment opportunities. The district has a 1:1 initiative that is 2nd-8th grade. The teachers provide student-centered learning experiences for core subjects in reading, writing, social studies, science and math. Students are also engaged in physical education, choir, orchestra, band, art, world languages, and Project Lead the Way, which provides STEM classes.
The Highlands offers special education service delivery from a co-taught setting through an inclusive setting. Additionally, the district provides related services of speech and language therapy, and occupational and physical therapy.
Students in the Highlands have an opportunity to participate in athletic programs as well as music programs. The athletic programs are offered to both boys and girls in grades seven and eight and are softball, basketball and volleyball. Additionally, cross country and soccer are co-ed, “no-cut” sports teams. For our students in grades five and six, the opportunity to participate in intramural sports include softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball. The music options for our middle school students include concert orchestra and band, chamber orchestra, jazz band, chorus and show choir, plus fourth grade students can begin to participate in band and orchestra. Additionally, both elementary and middle school students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of after-school clubs and activities.
Please continue to explore our district website. We continue to make updates and improvements to the website regularly. If you are planning or considering having your child(ren) attend the Highlands, do not hesitate to reach out to us so that we can answer any questions that you may have. Parents and community members, please feel free to contact me with any questions or requests for information.
