This year is flying by!
We cannot believe that we are almost at the end of the school year! Here are a few reminders about these last weeks of school:
-The last day of school is on Wednesday, June 3rd at 11:45
-For these last weeks of school, we will have a few fun activities to wrap up the school year and celebrate the Fourth Graders' last year in Elementary School. Please continue to check your email and Ms. Magruder's Highlands Happenings on Schoology for details on the events in these final weeks. There are some events that 4th grade parents are invited to, so keep an eye out for this information.
Information for 5th Grade
-Since 5th grade is the first year of Middle School, emails are typically sent over the summer in August with information about 5th grade (schedule, locker/combination info...). If you have other questions, Lauren Fountas, our amazing Middle School Office Secretary, should be able to help you lfountas@district106.net
-Cross Country is an option for 5th graders and it starts early in the school year. If your child is interested in joining, we would suggest getting a sports physical from your doctor over the summer, so your child will be all set to join any sports.
-To prepare for ELA/Reading&Writing skills, please read and discuss chapter books with your child over the summer. For an extra challenge, practice typing a paragraph about what you read (What is the theme? What is a new fact I learned? How did the character change over the course of the story?). This will be a great practice for reading and writing skills for 5th grade, and it will also practice typing skills. Middle Schoolers type often, so any keyboard practice on a home-device will be beneficial.
-To prepare for math, make sure students know their multiplication and division facts 0-12 with no finger tricks. Please continue to practice and review these facts. Also, you can subscribe to review websites, such as https://www.education.com , to review 4th grade math sheets. If you want an extra challenge, this website also has 5th and 6th grade math sheets you can use as a preview of what is coming in Middle School.
