Message From The Director
Welcome to the LaGrange Highlands School Student Service Page. In collaboration with the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education, Highlands provides a varied continuum of student supports pre-k through 8th grade designed to allow each child to reach his/her potential. Our staff consists of highly qualified professionals including resource teachers, academic intervention specialists, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and school nurses. Additionally, our partnership with the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education provides access to additional student support and programming such as specialized early childhood evaluation, assistive technology, autism consultation and programming, and behavioral consultation and programming. It is our goal to provide an environment that is safe, nurturing, and responsive to the needs of each family and child. We invite parent partnership and foster community collaboration.
We are enthusiastic about what this school year holds for Highlands School and we look forward to working together to help all students achieve their potential.

Preschool Program
The preschool program is located at Highlands Elementary School and offers students a rich learning environment aligned with the district's vision as well as Illinois State Early Learning and Development Standards. The program is partially funded through the Preschool For All Grant which details entry criteria as well as guidelines for offering admittance based on priority of need. If interested in exploring your child's eligibility for the program, please schedule a preschool screening appointment.
If not eligible for a seat in the preschool program via IDEA or the Preschool for All Grant, families may also enter the program via tuition. Please click here for an application for a tuition seat in the program. Once the application is complete, families will be notified if there is a current opening or if their student has been placed on the waitlist.
Preschool Screening
For children ages 3 to 5, LaGrange Highlands District 106 offers ongoing screening throughout the school year at Highlands Elementary School. Children must live within the boundaries of District 106 to participate in this program and must be at least 3 years of age to participate.
Children will be screened in the areas of early academic/cognitive development, fine and gross motor development, vision, hearing, and speech and language development. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may be in need of additional evaluation, to determine the presence of any early risk factors, and to answer concerns parents may have about their child's development.
Appointments are necessary and can be made by clicking here. Please remember that children must live within the boundaries of District 106 and must have reached their third birthday in order to participate in the screening.
Notice Regarding Related Service Logs
Students with disabilities may receive related services as part of their individual education programs (IEPs). District 106 will maintain related service logs that record the type and number of minutes of the related service(s) administered to such students. Parents/guardians of students with disabilities may request copies of their child's related service logs at any time.
