Students are understanding that to add two-digit numbers, you can add the tens with tens and the ones with ones. Students are also using equations to show composition and decomposition to add two-digit numbers and explain their reasoning used.
Reading/Writing: In our new Skills Unit, we have been working on segmenting and blending two syllable words, root words, and plural nouns. In writing, we are identifying statement and question sentences and using the appropriate punctuation. So far in first grade, we have done narrative and informative writing. In the next few weeks, we will begin to focus on opinion writing.
