Technology: Student Online Personal Protection Act Notice
Published by Mr. Munch on Nov 22, 2022

It recently came to our attention that Highlands Middle School students were using a language learning website (Duolingo) that is not fully compliant with the requirements of the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA). To our knowledge, the only student data provided to Duolingo was Google Authentication information based on their school-provided email address. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that this data has been misused or distributed. We are currently looking into whether there is a way to use Duolingo and be in full compliance with SOPPA. While we are looking into this matter, this website has been blocked from use on D106 devices.
