Middle School: Bob Barnes Classic - Boys' Basketball Tournament
Published by Ms. VerVynck on Nov 09, 2022

This past weekend Highlands Middle School hosted the Bob Barnes Classic - Boys' Basketball Tournament.  This tournament honors former Highlands teacher and coach, Mr. Bob Barnes.  Mr. Barnes was a pillar in the school and in the community and a great mentor for many former Highlands Hornets.  The tournament is a great way to honor his memory and keep his legacy going.  Mr. Barnes's son was in attendance for the tournament this year - he drove from Indiana to be here.

It has been several years since this fantastic event has been able to happen, but it was well worth the wait!  The Foundation did an excellent job bringing some competitive teams into the mix to make for some really exciting games.  All the 7th and 8th grade teams definitely came to win.  At both levels, our Highlands Hornets played well.  All games were very exciting to watch.  Our Hornets truly did Mr. Barnes proud.

Congratulations to our 8th grade boys team - they brought home the Championship to Highlands!  Great work!

A big thank you to the Foundation for making this event possible.  Thank you to Mr. Matt Yena (former Highlands staff/coach) who helped to bring this tournament to life and who was also in attendance on Saturday.  Thank you to our Highlands families that supported the event and ensured its success.
