Superintendent: Message from Mr. Munch
Published by Ms. Smith on Jul 14, 2021

Dear Highlands Community,

As you may know, on July 9th the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidance on COVID-19 prevention in K-12 schools. On that same day, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) fully adopted the CDC’s guidance. Since then, ISBE and IDPH have shared additional information and are anticipated to provide further clarification and guidance in the coming weeks.

In the weeks ahead, D106 will monitor our local COVID metrics, consult with local health authorities, consider legal guidance, and collaborate with our staff and surrounding districts to make informed decisions about the upcoming school year. A final plan regarding masking and other preventative strategies will be communicated to all Highlands parents and staff during the first week in August.

Later this week you will receive information about the agenda items for the July 20 Board meeting. In the week following the Board meeting, you will receive a summary which will highlight important information and decisions from that meeting.

We are very excited about the upcoming school year and are committed to making it a fantastic experience for our students.

Continue soaking up these summer days,

John Munch
Superintendent
