Tonight the Board of Education of LaGrange Highlands School District 106 named John Munch as its next superintendent.  Munch’s appointment concludes a search, conducted with the assistance of BWP and Associates, that produced over 40 qualified candidates.

In announcing the Board’s decision, Board President Andy Taylor shared that Munch quickly rose to the top of a very competitive candidate pool.  “John clearly understood what has made Highlands a great school district, and he shared a vision for how we can get even better.”

Munch has a broad background in education—as a teacher, school social worker, middle school assistant principal, and elementary school principal.  For the past seven years, he served as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources for Hinsdale School District 181.

Munch, who will earn his doctorate in educational leadership in December from National Louis University, is eager to build upon District 106’s past, with a keen eye on the future.  “We’ve learned a lot about teaching and learning and each other over the past 18 months,” said Munch.  “We will be thoughtful as we incorporate those lessons into our plans when students return in August, focusing on both instruction and relationships.”  Click here to read Mr. Munch's letter to District 106 families.

In approving Munch’s three-year contract, Taylor referenced broad community input as critical in the Board’s decision-making process.  “We benefited from the wisdom captured from the 587 members of our community who completed a survey, as well as data from focus groups and community forums.”

Munch will begin his duties on July 1, 2021.
