Community Connection: Saliva Screening Update
Published by Mr. Viniard on Feb 03, 2021

We want to provide the D106 family with an update on the weekly saliva screenings being conducted at both schools.

As we enter our fourth week of screenings, we have 671 students and staff signed up for this voluntary screening.  Through the first three weeks we have a 69% participation rate.  We know it’s easy to forget that small envelope and trying to collect saliva in such a small tube can be a challenge, but it is important to provide the sample each week. The screening provides us with D106-specific data that will help students return to an in-person learning schedule five days per week, as well as extend learning beyond 12:30 p.m. each day.

The results from the last three weeks demonstrate the value of the saliva screenings in protecting our students, staff, and community.  The four “probable” findings to date from the saliva screening were from asymptomatic individuals.  With that information, we were able to move quickly to isolate them and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.

If you are signed up to participate, please help us to boost participation.   Our screening schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesdays:  “A” group elementary school students, D106 staff and evening custodial staff
  • Thursdays:  Middle school students and “B” group elementary school students

If you have not participated previously, please reconsider by clicking here to complete a waiver.  After submitting the waiver, please contact your respective school office to obtain a kit with supplies and labels. Instructions will also be provided to you.  To view a short video of how to provide a saliva sample, please click hereScreenings can be completed at home the night before returning them to school the next day.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Karen Lippold, Middle School Nurse, Jeannette Geskie, Elementary School Nurse, Ms. Magruder, Elementary School Principal, or Mr. Papierski, Middle School Principal.

Thanks for your partnership with the screening process.
